WC00 - Bachelor of Computer Science with Honours (Computational Science)

Scientists studying problems in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics or medicine and designers dealing with problems in engineering, industry, architecture or the arts increasingly depend on technology to assist them in their work. Computational Science is an emerging multi-disciplinary field that combines together computer science and natural science with mathematical modelling, numerical computation, high performance computing and graphical data visualization.

Upon successful completion of the programme, students would be capable of modelling of real world problems, analysing data and provide solutions for scientific and industrial communities by using advanced computer techniques and technology.

Programme educational objectives (PEO)
The programme educational objectives are:
· Producing graduates who are founded and possessing the ability to apply core knowledge of Computer Science with programme specialization for the aspiration of the society.

· Nurturing graduates who can think critically and possess the ability to solve problems for the requirements of industry. 

· Equipping graduates with leadership, professionalism, and ethics to meet the needs of the stakeholders. 

The programme learning outcomes (PLO)
Upon graduating from this programme, the students are able to:
· Apply the knowledge of Computer Science with Computational Science specialization to meet industry needs, 

· Demonstrate technical and programming skills to solve Computer Science problems 

· Communicate effectively with industry and society 

· Develop creative and innovative solutions in relative to problems which involve scientific approach 

· Build teamwork skills as well as social responsibility 

· Manage information and perform life-long learning in the broadcast context of technological change. 

· Build knowledge and skills in management and entrepreneurship 

· Practise professionalism, value, attitude, and ethical behaviour in the society 

. Demonstrate leadership skills in working environment

A. University's Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum requirements for entry into most undergraduate programmes are as follows:

Good pass in the Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) with a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July Paper and a pass in Sejarah subject (for SPM 2013 and above) in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)

AND

A good pass in the Sijil Tinggi Peperiksaan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum of:

  • Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in Pengajian Am; AND
  • Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in two (2) other subjects,

OR

A good pass in Sijil Matrikulasi KPM/Asasi Sains UM/ Asasi UiTM with a minimum

  • CGPA of 2.00

OR

A recognised Diploma in relevant fields

AND

Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

  • At least Band 1

Good pass in the Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) with a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July Paper and a pass in Sejarah subject (for SPM 2013 and above) in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)

Notes:

  1. Entry requirements into professional courses such as Medicine and Engineering are generally much higher. In addition there are also specific requirements for entry into certain programmes. Further details can be obtained from the relevant faculties.
  2. For foreign students, the general requirement is a good pass in A level, Matriculation, Higher School Certificates or other equivalent pre-university examinations. Malaysian Government Policy states that admission into certain degree programmes are restricted to local students only.

B. Special Requirements for Enrolment

Science Stream

  • To get at least a C Grade (NGMP 2.00) in STPM Level in one (1) of the following subjects:
  • Mathematics M
  • Mathematics T
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • AND
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Mathematics; and
  • Additional Mathematics
  • AND
  • To get at least a pass with E Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Bahasa Inggeris

Science / Engineering / Technical Stream

  • Possessing a Diploma in the relevant field or any other qualifications endorsed by the UNIMAS Senate with a minimum CGPA of 2.00
  • AND
  • To provide Academic Transcript from First Year till Final Semester.
  • OR
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade in STPM Level in any one(1) of the subjects below:
  • Mathematics M
  • Mathematics T
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • OR
  • To get at least C Grade (2.00) in Matriculation/Asasi Level in any one(1) of the subjects below:
  • Mathematics
  • Sains Komputer/Engineering Computing/Computer Literacy/Computer and Information Processing/Computer Science
  • AND
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Mathematics; and
  • Additional Mathematics
  • AND
  • To get at least a pass with E Grade in SPM Level for below subject:
  • Bahasa Inggeris

Science / Engineering / Technical Stream

  • To get at least a C Grade (2.00) in Matriculation Level in any one (1) of the following subjects:
  • Mathematics
  • Sains Komputer/Engineering Computing/Computer Literacy/Computer and Information Processing/Computer Science
  • AND
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Mathematics; and
  • Additional Mathematics
  • AND
  • To get at least a pass with E Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Bahasa Inggeris

Interested applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 12 years of primary and secondary schools with a Higher School Certificate (HSC) qualification or its equivalents. In addition, students who have obtained a high school/college diploma or its equivalent may also apply

International students who wish to enroll in undergraduate programmes at UNIMAS are required to satisfy the university’s English language requirements as listed below:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing Scheme) score of 5.5 or
  • TOEFL (test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 or
  • CBT (computer-based TOEFL) score of 230 or
  • IBT (internet-based TOEFL) minimum score of 80 or
  • English Language requirement may be satisfied for applicants who have successfully completed full time secondary or tertiary studies or equivalent qualification where the language of instruction and assessment was in English. Academic transcript and an official letter from the institution certifying that English was the medium of instruction and assessment must be provided.

Students without the required level of English but meet the requirement for undergraduate studies will be given a conditional offer of undergraduate study and are required to enroll in the Intensive English Language Programme offered by the Faculty of Language Studies and Communication Studies, UNIMAS. Students who pass the Intensive English Language Programme can pursue their full-time undergraduate study at UNIMAS.
