Nowadays enterprises are moving to a higher level of automation and are highly dependent on information provided by computer-based system. These complex systems will become an exceedingly important strategic asset of the organization. The study of Information System, therefore, is concerned with the development of systems that will get the right information to the right people at the right time.

Drawing on the department’s strength in multidisciplinary research that involves knowledge technology and human centered computing, this programme’s four (4) year structure is designed for students who wish to be competent in deciding how technology are utilize to support organizational/business objectives or to create new opportunities, determine the supporting process and data, implementing computer-based systems and also developing new and innovative products.

All courses consist of extensive theoretical and practical studies will require the use of a wide variety of system development tools. This is in line with the department’s research focus, which is to create, disseminate, and apply knowledge at the intersection of human systems and information technology. With organizations, people, processes and technical aspects in system development as its focal point, students will be equipped with basic organizational theory, decision-making, project management and system development skills, which are parallel with the latest information technology system.

A. University's Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum requirements for entry into most undergraduate programmes are as follows:

Good pass in the Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) with a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July Paper and a pass in Sejarah subject (for SPM 2013 and above) in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)

AND

A good pass in the Sijil Tinggi Peperiksaan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum of:

  • Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in Pengajian Am; AND
  • Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in two (2) other subjects,

OR

A good pass in Sijil Matrikulasi KPM/Asasi Sains UM/ Asasi UiTM with a minimum

  • CGPA of 2.00

OR

A recognised Diploma in relevant fields

AND

Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

  • At least Band 1

Good pass in the Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) with a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July Paper and a pass in Sejarah subject (for SPM 2013 and above) in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)

Notes:

  1. Entry requirements into professional courses such as Medicine and Engineering are generally much higher. In addition there are also specific requirements for entry into certain programmes. Further details can be obtained from the relevant faculties.
  2. For foreign students, the general requirement is a good pass in A level, Matriculation, Higher School Certificates or other equivalent pre-university examinations. Malaysian Government Policy states that admission into certain degree programmes are restricted to local students only.

B. Special Requirements for Enrolment

Science Stream

  • To get at least a C Grade (NGMP 2.00) in STPM Level in one (1) of the following subjects:
  • Mathematics M
  • Mathematics T
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • AND
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
  • AND
  • To get at least a pass with E Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Bahasa Inggeris

Science/Engineering/Technical Stream

  • Possessing a Diploma in the relevant field or any other qualifications endorsed by the UNIMAS Senate with a minimum CGPA of 2.00
  • AND
  • To provide Academic Transcript from First Year till Final Semester.
  • OR
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade in STPM Level in any one(1) of the subjects below:
  • Mathematics M
  • Mathematics T
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • OR
  • To get at least C Grade (2.00) in Matriculation/Asasi Level in any one(1) of the subjects below:
  • Mathematics
  • Sains Komputer/Engineering Computing/Computer Literacy/Computer and Information Processing/Computer Science
  • AND
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
  • AND
  • To get at least a pass with E Grade in SPM Level for below subject:
  • Bahasa Inggeris

Science / Engineering / Technical Stream

  • To get at least a C Grade (2.00) in Matriculation/Asasi Level in any one (1) of the following subjects:
  • Mathematics
  • Sains Komputer/Engineering Computing/Computer Literacy/Computer and Information Processing/Computer Science
  • AND
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
  • AND
  • To get at least a pass with E Grade in SPM Level for below subjects:
  • Bahasa Inggeris

Interested applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 12 years of primary and secondary schools with a Higher School Certificate (HSC) qualification or its equivalents. In addition, students who have obtained a high school/college diploma or its equivalent may also apply

International students who wish to enroll in undergraduate programmes at UNIMAS are required to satisfy the university’s English language requirements as listed below:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing Scheme) score of 5.5 or
  • TOEFL (test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 or
  • CBT (computer-based TOEFL) score of 230 or
  • IBT (internet-based TOEFL) minimum score of 80 or
  • English Language requirement may be satisfied for applicants who have successfully completed full time secondary or tertiary studies or equivalent qualification where the language of instruction and assessment was in English. Academic transcript and an official letter from the institution certifying that English was the medium of instruction and assessment must be provided.

Students without the required level of English but meet the requirement for undergraduate studies will be given a conditional offer of undergraduate study and are required to enroll in the Intensive English Language Programme offered by the Faculty of Language Studies and Communication Studies, UNIMAS. Students who pass the Intensive English Language Programme can pursue their full-time undergraduate study at UNIMAS.
