Malaysia is at the centre of the Indo-Pacific region, an area blessed with abundant and diverse aquatic life. Many of these aquatic organisms have yet to be investigated, and their economic potential remain untapped. Aquatic resources are also an important economic source for the local population. However, the rapid pace of development in this country has put stress on these diverse aquatic ecosystems.

The Department of Aquatic Sciences is currently offering one undergraduate programme i.e. Science and Management of Aquatic Resource. This programme aims to provide students with a sound understanding of the various aquatic ecosystems and resources so that they may be utilised in a sustainable way for socio-economic and other benefits. Our courses are designed for graduates to gain scientific knowledge and expertise to undertake research and development projects, especially on the exploitation and conservation aspects. The programme also emphasises public awareness to the importance of preserving aquatic ecosystems and resources for the benefit of future generations.

A. University's Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum requirements for entry into most undergraduate programmes are as follows:

Good pass in the Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) with a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July Paper and a pass in Sejarah subject (for SPM 2013 and above) in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)

AND

A good pass in the Sijil Tinggi Peperiksaan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum of:

  • Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in Pengajian Am; AND
  • Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in two (2) other subjects,

OR

A good pass in Sijil Matrikulasi KPM/Asasi Sains UM/ Asasi UiTM with a minimum

  • CGPA of 2.00

OR

A recognised Diploma in relevant fields

AND

Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

  • At least Band 1

Good pass in the Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) with a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or a credits in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July Paper and a pass in Sejarah subject (for SPM 2013 and above) in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)

Notes:

  1. Entry requirements into professional courses such as Medicine and Engineering are generally much higher. In addition there are also specific requirements for entry into certain programmes. Further details can be obtained from the relevant faculties.
  2. For foreign students, the general requirement is a good pass in A level, Matriculation, Higher School Certificates or other equivalent pre-university examinations. Malaysian Government Policy states that admission into certain degree programmes are restricted to local students only.

B. Special Requirements for Enrolment

Science Stream

  • To get at least a C Grade (NGMP 2.00) in STPM Level for below subject:
  • Biology
  • AND
  • To get at least a pass with E Grade in SPM Level for below subject:
  • Bahasa Inggeris
  • *Candidates who possess any form of physical disability are discourage from applying

Science Stream

  • Possessing a Diploma in the relevant field or any other qualifications endorsed by the UNIMAS Senate with a minimum CGPA of 2.00
  • AND
  • To provide Academic Transcript from First Year till Final Semester.
  • OR
  • To get at least a credit with C Grade (2.00) in STPM Level for below subject:
  • Biology
  • OR
  • To get at least C Grade (2.00) in Matriculation/Asasi Level for below subject:
  • Biology
  • AND
  • To get at least a pass with E Grade in SPM Level for below subject:
  • Bahasa Inggeris
  • *Candidates who possess any form of physical disability are discourage from applying

Interested applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 12 years of primary and secondary schools with a Higher School Certificate (HSC) qualification or its equivalents. In addition, students who have obtained a high school/college diploma or its equivalent may also apply

International students who wish to enroll in undergraduate programmes at UNIMAS are required to satisfy the university’s English language requirements as listed below:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing Scheme) score of 5.5 or
  • TOEFL (test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 or
  • CBT (computer-based TOEFL) score of 230 or
  • IBT (internet-based TOEFL) minimum score of 80 or
  • English Language requirement may be satisfied for applicants who have successfully completed full time secondary or tertiary studies or equivalent qualification where the language of instruction and assessment was in English. Academic transcript and an official letter from the institution certifying that English was the medium of instruction and assessment must be provided.

Students without the required level of English but meet the requirement for undergraduate studies will be given a conditional offer of undergraduate study and are required to enroll in the Intensive English Language Programme offered by the Faculty of Language Studies and Communication Studies, UNIMAS. Students who pass the Intensive English Language Programme can pursue their full-time undergraduate study at UNIMAS.
