About Course



Our coursework programmes are designed to extend knowledge and skills gained from the first degree and to develop new professional skills in graduates. The programmes involve lectures, seminars and project work. Students are required to successfully complete the minimum credit as required by the respective programme (between 40 and 44 credits) and a final Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.0 in order to graduate. The Master degree by Coursework is offered every February and September.

  • A Bachelor degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, as accepted by the Senate;
  • A Bachelor degree or equivalent but with CGPA less than 2.50, may be admitted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experiencein the relevant field; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications approved by the Senate
  • For international students, a minimum IELTS Score of 5.5 or its equivalent ( e.g TOEFL-525; TOEFL Computer Test -196; TOEFL Internet Test 69-70 or MUET Band 3) is required.

The MSc Counselling is offered by the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development and is aimed to produce counsellors with:

  • competence in handling issues relating to individuals, organizations, families and communities
  • professional, ethical and scientific thinking to improve quality of life and productivity in a variety of environments
  • cultural practice through role helping and volunteering as a counselor, manager, consultant, mentor , coach and mediator
  • A tendency to engage in research-related problems in a variety of environments.

The Masters of Science (Counseling) program covers all the main areas of study required of a professional counsellor. The curriculum is aligned with the Standards and Requirements of Trainings for Counsellors (2011) as set by the Malaysian Board of Counsellors (Lembaga Kaunselor)
