About Course



Master in Orthopaedic Surgery is a professional degree conferred in recognition of a candidate's command of a comprehensive body of knowledge in the field of orthopaedic and proven ability to initiate, organize, and pursue the investigation of significant problems or interventions in orthopaedic. The focus of this degree is the development of core competencies as an orthopaedic surgeon to serve at district hospital with orthopaedic facilities.



            The programme shall produce graduates who are:

  1. Knowledgeable in the core orthopaedic knowledge and capable to critically solve complex orthopaedic problems creatively and innovatively.
  2. Clinically competent to perform surgery for common cases in Orthopaedic Trauma, Arthroplasty, Spine, Paediatrics, Hand & Microsurgery, Sports injuries & Musculoskeletal Tumours.
  3. Responsible leaders and clinical specialists who are able to work independently by using a variety digital, numerical and technical skills in a healthcare organization.
  4. Able to conducts themselves with high ethical, professional capability, good character & integrity with good personal and entrepreneurial skills.




            2.1 Malaysian Applicant

  1. Conform to the Postgraduate Policies and Regulations of the University specific entry requirements
  2. A Bachelor degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, as accepted by the Senate;
  3. A Bachelor degree or equivalent but with CGPA less than 2.50, may be admitted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications approved by the Senate
  1. Possesses a MBBS/MD degree or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
  2. Registrable under the Medical Practitioner Act of Malaysia
  3. At least five years’ clinical experience after graduating
  4. Has at least two year of clinical experience in orthopedic
  5. Satisfies the department and faculty entrance evaluations
  6. Clears the medical check-up by the University’s health authorities.


For candidate with limited clinical experience special consideration may be given pending approval from department and the faculty

       2.2 Additional Requirement for International Applicant


  1. A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL equivalent (within 3 years)
  2. Show proof of financial ability to pursue their studies and live in Malaysia for the duration of study
  3. A letter of financial guarantee/sponsorship or the most recent financial statement from the applicant’s bank
  4. Has an international passport with at least two years validity and meet all immigration requirements.


      2.4 Applicants need two referees’ report from a consultant with whom they have worked for at  

             least 6 months.


            2.5 Shortlisted applicants will be called for an interview conducted by the Selection for  

                   Postgraduate Orthopaedic Training (SPOT) or the Faculty Postgraduate Committee.


             2.6 The final decision is subject to the approval of the following committee

  1. Orthopaedic Specialty Committee (National Level)
  2. Faculty Post Graduate Committee
  3. Centre of Graduate Studies, UNIMAS



The full fee for this programme is RM34,004.00 per course for Malaysian student and RM140,084.00 per course for International student. Students supported by the government, employers or other sponsors should bring letters from their sponsors addressed to UNIMAS confirming that the fee will be paid directly.
