The culture of giving recognition and celebrating staff for excellence and service at UNIMAS began in 2006 through the Awards Ceremony held annually. Typically, the event only celebrated recipients of the Excellent Service Award (APC). However, starting from 2009, other awards were also established to recognize achievements and appreciate the service of UNIMAS staff.

The awards are divided into three (3) categories: Academic Award, Management Award, and Sports Award. All these awards are based on predefined criteria and decided at the relevant committee level. This event is then known as the UNIMAS Outstanding Awards Ceremony (MAGU).
