Master In Orthopaedic Surgery

Master in Orthopaedic Surgery is a professional degree conferred in recognition of a candidate's command of a comprehensive body of knowledge in the field of orthopaedic and proven ability to initiate, organize, and pursue the investigation of significant problems or interventions in orthopaedic. The focus of this degree is the development of core competencies as an orthopaedic surgeon to serve at district hospital with orthopaedic facilities.

Who Should Apply
The programme shall produce graduates who are:
  • Knowledgeable in the core orthopaedic knowledge and capable to critically solve complex
  • Orthopaedic problems creatively and innovatively.
  • Clinically competent to perform surgery for common cases in Orthopaedic Trauma, Arthroplasty, Spine, Paediatrics, Hand & Microsurgery, Sports injuries & Musculoskeletal Tumours.
  • Responsible leaders and clinical specialists who are able to work independently by using a variety digital, numerical and technical skills in a healthcare organization.
  • Able to conducts themselves with high ethical, professional capability, good character & integrity with good personal and entrepreneurial skills.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The programme outcomes were tailored to the UNIMAS and faculty’s educational goals; and were based on the eight areas identified by the Malaysian Qualification Agency.

Course Module

Conferment Of Master In Orthopaedic surgery
In order to be conferred the degree of Master in Orthopaedic Surgery by UNIMAS, a candidate MUST fulfil ALL the following criteria:

  • PASS part 2 OSC Conjoint Exam
  • Fulfil the dissertation correction as recommended by internal or external examiners, confirmed by the internal examiner or a dissertation evaluation special committee.

Deferment of Study
The duration for the deferment of the study is subject to the maximum approved duration of the programme. The maximum approved duration of the MS Ortho programme is 6 years. Any extension beyond the maximum approved duration of the programme is subject to UNIMAS’s Senat approval.

 

Consideration for Deferment of Study
A student who is sick for an extended period can apply to the Dean of the Faculty to defer his/her study for a certain period of time.  For all such cases, an appropriate verification from a registered medical doctor is required.  In special cases where the verification is not from a registered medical doctor, application for deferment of study can only be considered if the student has initially sought medical treatment.  In psychiatric cases, approval for deferment will be subjected to the recommendation of the doctor involved. The medical doctor who provides treatment and verification for a student must be from the Ministry of Health, the University or from the University’s panel of doctors. All decision relating to such applications are made at the Faculty level, with notification to the Centre for Graduate Studies (CGS).

Consideration for Deferment of Sitting for Examination
A student who is sick or facing other serious problems during the examination period must apply to the Dean of the Faculty to defer his/her sitting for the examination.  However, any application for a deferment must be made within 24 hours of the examination. Any application to defer the sitting of any examination on medical ground must be made with verification from the registered medical doctor who is treating the student.  The attending doctor must be from the Ministry of Health, the University or from the University’s panel of doctors
