WHAT WE OFFER
Faculty of Law
Officially established on 19 March 2025, the Faculty of Law at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) marks a historic milestone as the first law faculty in Sabah and Sarawak. As the eleventh and latest faculty of UNIMAS, its establishment represents a strategic initiative to address the growing legal challenges in particular for Sarawak. The faculty offers a distinctive and student-centred approach to legal education through focused teaching and learning methodologies. A key feature of the faculty is its curriculum, which emphasises on the legal framework of Sarawak, including the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the Sarawak Land Code, and the native laws of the indigenous communities of Sarawak. The faculty actively strengthens collaborations with legal institutions, government agencies, law firms, and industry partners to ensure that its academic programmes remain relevant to the evolving demands of the legal profession. Through these partnerships, the faculty is committed to producing competent, ethical, and globally competitive graduates. In addition, the faculty intends to contribute actively to the advancement of legal scholarship through research-driven education and the exploration of contemporary legal issues, fostering a dynamic and impactful learning environment.

The Bachelor of Laws with Honours programme is a four-year (eight-semester) degree programme designed to produce graduates who possess a strong foundation in Malaysian law while also developing a comprehensive understanding of the unique legal landscape of Sarawak. This programme equips students with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required in the legal profession.
The curriculum provides in-depth exposure to key areas of Sarawak law, including the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the Sarawak Land Code, Native Customary Rights (NCR) Land Law, and Native Law. In addition, students are required to undertake core courses in Cyber Law and Intellectual Property Law, reflecting the growing importance of these fields in contemporary legal practice.
Professional courses offered in the final year of the programme incorporate the active involvement of legal practitioners in the teaching and learning process, ensuring that students gain valuable industry insights and practical exposure. The programme also places significant emphasis on the development of professional legal skills, including legal drafting, advocacy, and litigation. In the final year, students will participate in simulated trial sessions designed to enhance their communication, advocacy, and litigation skills through practical courtroom experiences that closely replicate actual judicial proceedings.
